The "Rule of Attachment" forbids tribal young from forming strong emotional attachments like Love. They are taught the joys of sexual interaction by appointed mentors. Jamari finds himself struggling to avoid bonding with his mentor even as his mentor is falling in love with him. Will they be able to abide by the rules of The Tribe?  The other primary challenge? While The Tribe is built along the lines of homosexual interactions, they have to perform heterosexual acts as well in order for The Tribe to grow. Some find this slightly repulsive. Some horribly so. Others ... find that they are breeders. Heterosexuals. Outcasts. Jamari finds that he experiences incredibly intense emotions and reactions when he is assigned to father a child. What does this mean for him? Will he turn out to be a breeder? Does he have a choice in the matter?
